A crown
is a type of dental restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth.
Crowns are often needed when a large cavity threatens the ongoing health of a
tooth. They are typically bonded to the tooth using a dental cement.
A dental crown may be needed in the following situations:

- To restore an already broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down
- To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t a lot of tooth left
- To hold a dental bridge in place
- To cover misshaped or severely discolored teeth
- To cover a dental implant
A bridge, also known as a fixed partial denture, is
a dental restoration used to replace a missing tooth by joining permanently to
adjacent teeth. A bridge is fabricated by reducing the teeth on either side of
the missing tooth or teeth by a preparation pattern determined by the location
of the teeth and by the material from which the bridge is fabricated.

Root Canal Treatment
Root Canal Treatment is used
to repair and save badly decayed teeth. Spontaneous pain when biting,
heightened sensitivity to hot and cold foods and severe tooth decay are signs
that a root canal treatment may be necessary. Endodontic therapy or root canal therapy is a sequence of treatment for the infected pulp of a tooth which results in the elimination of infection and the
protection of the decontaminated tooth from future microbial
invasion. The procedure of Root Canal or endodontictreatment includes removal of the infected or damaged pulp from the diseased
tooth. After that the hollow pulp chamber and root canals are cleaned, filled
and sealed. This set of procedures is commonly referred to as a root canal.
The most
common causes of pulp damage or death are:
- A cracked tooth
- A deep cavity
- An injury to a tooth, such as a severe knock to the tooth, either recent or in the past.
Once the
pulp is infected or dead, if left untreated, pus can build up at the root tip
in the jawbone, forming an abscess. An abscess can destroy the bone surrounding
the tooth and cause pain
How Long
Will the Restored Tooth Last?
Your treated and restored tooth/teeth can last a lifetime with proper care. Because tooth decay can still occur in treated teeth, good oral hygiene and regular dental exams are necessary to prevent further problems.

As there
is no longer a pulp keeping the tooth alive, root-treated teeth can become
brittle and are more prone to fracture. This is an important consideration when
deciding whether to crown or fill a tooth after root canal treatment.

people with strength or dexterity problems in their hands, but they have
come into widespread general use. The effectiveness of electric
toothbrushes at reducing plaque formation and gingivitis is superior to
that of conventional manual toothbrushes.

between teeth may help to prevent build-up of plaque bacteria on the
teeth. This may be done with dental floss or inter dental brushes.

Fluoride that is absorbed by your body is used by the cells that build your teeth to make stronger enamel. Topical fluoride – fluoride that is applied to the outside of the enamel.

Sealant Application
Dental sealants are thin plastic
coatings that are applied to the grooves on the chewing surfaces of the
back teeth to protect them from tooth decay. Most tooth decay in
children and teens occurs on these surfaces. Sealants protect the
chewing surfaces from tooth decay by keeping germs and food particles
out of these grooves.
Dental Tips
- Have a dental check-up at LEAST EVERY 6 MONTHS.
- Brush at least twice a day with soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.
- Use an inter-dental brush daily to remove food particles in-between teeth.
